Hoi Kay is a PhD student researching urban and extreme heat vulnerability, and the effectiveness of urban vegetation in building heat resilience within cities. Previously based in Singapore, Hoi Kay completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geography, where she gained an interest in urban climatology. In her current research at UBC’s Faculty of Forestry, she is interested in undertaking a mixed-methods approach to explore the lived experiences of vulnerable communities with heat, as well as investigating the effectiveness of urban vegetation in reducing heat across various scales and built environments. Outside of work, Hoi Kay enjoys immersing herself in a good book, relaxing in nature and going on road trips to the middle of nowhere.
