Josefina is a PhD student interested in linking research, education and action in social ecological systems, with a focus on participatory and transdisciplinary approaches. She is focused on how local and marginalized communities, drawing rich bodies of knowledge, have developed nature-dependent adaptations to their livelihoods and food system in urban ecosystems. For her thesis, she is investigating how biocultural diverse communities have adapted their knowledge and practices to urban systems and the importance of recognizing this diversity to create more inclusive urban forestry.  Beyond studies and work, Josefina enjoys cooking slow food, being in a variety of nature spaces, and playing soccer with her friends.
